| time is sure a-flyin.
in less than three months, i'll be a mrs. i'll have to change my name on all of my important documents. and i've even done the girly thing where i've practiced signing my name trisha brown. actually, a friend recommended it since i'll be signing everything different.
my principal's secretary noted to me that once i change my name, i will be the first in the alphabetical order of teachers...[that's odd to me...coming from the end of the alphabet!] that meant that she would have to move every one's mailbox over one this summer...i don't think that she was greatly excited about that task...
that also means that i will renew my car registration earlier in the year [because indiana is ridiculous when they suggested to forgo the "very easy to remember renewal of registration on your birthday" for renewal of registration according to your last name. hey, at least the state finally observes daylight savings...]
wedding plans are on the go...the decorations and the cake are the biggest areas right now. it's a shame that i couldn't have a registry as a single person. now i get to ask for upgrades, so that's a plus. like my pots and pans, even though i cook little, are seeing some wear and tear. [probably because they were cheap and i was broke.]
hope all is well for those few that still read this post... chau

| ....aaaaand almost february.
here's a downer about getting married: having to share your holidays.
for instance, my parents live in ohio. his live in louisville. we see his family every week. i like his fam, so that's good an all, but not the point. i hate having to miss holidays with my fam. i just wish they lived closer--five hours is not a one-day trip. not even a two-day trip. it's a loooong drive. plus, we have to work it around our schedules. since he is not a teacher [he works at UPS btw....i know, what can brown do for you? hahaha...] he can only have so many days off...so it makes it harder. and the fact that his family celebrates christmas like three different times on three different days makes it harder to juggle not getting one holiday with my fam. it was a hard decision this year, and i know that it sounds like i'm pouting--but i'm not. i'm just saying that it's difficult. maybe it will be easier once we are married and have a house...then my family could come down here...maybe. :)
we had a two-hour delay on tuesday. the first one in a year! we delay hardly ever and cancel almost never...city schools'll do that to ya.
the website is still under some construction--i need to add more, but for now it's just rolling along. we have the invitations and the caterer to worry about--those are the last big things. i can't believe that i'll be married in less than five months. even harder--this is my first non-S.A.D. [singles awareness day]. odd that i can buy a valentine's card for a sweetheart and not have it thrown back at me [a la second grade]. ;)
so, it looks like xanga is on the way out. i probably won't do anything else, just because xanga can be used at school, unlike many others...
well, chau for now! | | |
| okay, so it's not completely done yet...but if you'd like to view the uncompleted-yet-almost-done website:

| aaaahhhh....thanksgiving.
today in advisory, i asked my students to write a paragraph about what they were thankful for and then draw a picture of it at the top.
i had several students tell me, "i don't know what to write."
"so, you don't know what you are thankful for?!"
"no."
it just goes to show how much kids [and adults too] take for granted.
here's a positive, though: our students gathered almost 5,000 cans to donate to needy families this year....even those that are needy themselves! i am constantly amazed by these middle schoolers, but this time it's in a positive light :)
wedding plans....doing good. not crazy yet. YET. i am working on a wedding website--it's still under contsruction, but it will be up soon ;)
| so, here's a glimpse of today's parents:
we had almost 50 students absent on tuesday. almost 90% of those students were 'ill'. one parent even commented that she 'let him [the student] have too much candy.'
parents that let their kids run around past midnight on halloween. that let them eat their entire bag of candy that night. that let them stay in the next day....at home alone.
what a huge, blaring, screaming red flag...what is up with these 'parents'????!!!
those that lie for thier child. those that defend whatever the child says. those that buy them gifts or games or even game systems for their o.s.s. time. those that yell at the teacher, 'you're not doing your job' while their student who is supposed to be in detention is playing video games next to him.
parents that pawn their kids stuff so that they can get money because they are too lazy to get a job.
parents that make their 12 year old daughter walk to the bar and walk them home because they are too drunk to walk themselves.
parents that let their young children watch 'saw' and 'texas chainsaw massacre' and that videotape their kids doing jackass stunts.
parents that beat their kids not for stealing but for getting caught.
what a generation of screwed up kids we have...who will grow up to become these parents.
